Greensky Bluegrass event @ World Cafe Live

Green sky Bluegrass will be performing on Thursday, July 12, 2012 at 8:00 pm.

If you’re familiar with bluegrass music, then you’re tuned in to some of what Greensky Bluegrass does. They’re also known to throw a great party, rock n roll, and (if the critics are to be believed) they have great songs. They are unquestionably a team of friends that traverse the country making music they enjoy. What makes Greensky different than Bluegrass? Poignant rural ballads about real people? Dobro tone that Jerry (Douglas or Garcia) would love? Distortion Pedals? Grit and attitude from a whiskey soaked card game? Indeed, but that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

This quintet from Michigan has been staying up late at all the coolest festivals and stopping to play your favorite clubs and theaters across America for 11 years now. Nearly 175 shows per year has prepared them for the rigorous task of continuity. Greensky Bluegrass isn’t slowing down. They’re coming to your town to help you party down. Yeah. Really. Like you never thought possible.

At the start of the millennium, some of these guys met, then they met more guys. They thought Greensky was a clever name for a bluegrass band. Fast forward to 2011 when they recorded their fourth studio record, called Handguns. Among them, words like, proud, killer, and damn right! have been spoken in regards to the music of Handguns.

While they all may be accurate, we hope you’ll find far more than you expected, hell - even more than we expected contained in this piece work that may well come to define one of 21st Century Americas hardest working musical ensembles.

Showtime: 8:30 / doors: 8:00
Tickets: $20 Advance / $25 Day of Show

From the first notes struck together in 2003 through tours with Bob Dylan and Willie Nelson, the Greencards have won steadily escalating acclaim for their multi-dimensional Americana vision. Their releases have topped the Billboard Bluegrass charts while two singles have garnered Grammy nominations. This four piece band, spearheaded by Australians Carol Young and Kym Warner, is interested less in past accomplishments than in looking ahead for new goals to achieve. Their latest release is also in many ways their most significant and impressive to date. Produced and engineered by studio veteran Justin Niebank (Vince Gill, Marty Stuart, Keith Urban), The Brick Album is the first to successfully infuse The Greencards’ eclectic musical references with the excitement they generate onstage. Their music is rhythmically irresistible, balancing taste and technique, engaging lyrics and melodies and wildly creative arrangements. There may be a wall on its cover, but the future suggested on these tracks knows no barrier. Each step they’ve taken has widened their appeal. They’ve earned ovations from “newgrass” music devotees at MerleFest and rocked loyalists at Lollapalooza.

In addition, a five-month performing stint in Australia and the South Pacific 2010 spurred a creative and spiritual rejuvenation for Terry. He quickly found love on the trip, which ultimately led him to marry New Zealand native Jessica in late 2010. He proposed to her in front of a sold-out crowd at Nashville’s famed Bluebird Cafe, where he's been a regular for seven years.

Terry, who moved back to the Northeast with his new bride in 2011, recently finished recording his second record, slated for an official release in the spring of 2012. The new LP "Empty Seat On A Plane" was recorded in Nashville with acclaimed producer/mixer Neilson Hubbard (Kim Richey, Matthew Perryman Jones, Amy Speace, Glen Phillips).

This guy needs a band for his needs a band for his kids wedding

I know this sounds strange but I am looking for a band -- likely bluegrass/country.  Not a traditional wedding band.  It would be nice if they could do a Grateful Dead cover or two (sounds strange?).  Hiring a band for the reception is a possible gift for my son and his lovely wife for their wedding in Ithaca on June 2.  The couple has a very limited budget that they are putting into good food and good beer.  They are thinking of renting a PA and putting together a mix of recorded music -- yuk.  My wife and I prefer live music, so we thought this would be a great gift (but our budget is not unlimited).

Would be good if the band knew how to get guests up and do some dancing some. Mostly younger folks in late 20s, with older family members (typical, I suspect).  He prefers Bluegrass and Grateful Dead.  She seems to like Country/Western.  The venue is the Ithaca Farmers Market. Not sure of the number of guests, hours likely beginning abound 7 pm.   Any suggestions?  If you know some local musicians who might be interested, have them contact me via email at this address.

The challenge for me is the bride is at in Ithaca (she knows I am looking for a band, and she will help me choose one).  I live in Philadelphia.  The groom is in Atlanta.
If anyone is available  - or knows a band who can do the Ithaca area -- please pass on my request.  I have to give the bride a couple of choices, and I haven't found the right group yet.
